Introduction

Physicians DataTrust specializes in managing Independent Physician Associations (IPAs) with both commercial and senior managed care (HMO) patients. The Challenge: New business, new challenges

Physicians DataTrust (PDT) was founded in December of 2001. Prior to its formation, many staff members were part of a separate organization that utilized MedMC, ImagineSoftware's managed care software solution. PDT was presented with the option to move forward with MedMC, or shop for a new solution. As the new company’s Director of Information Systems, Marissa Massey was responsible for the implementation of their software solution choice. "We picked up two new IPA’s so we were as busy as ever. In 2001, electronic claims were still in their infancy and authorization requests weren’t all electronic. Data entry was the bulk of employee responsibility," said Massey. "We needed a solution that was easy to use, would improve staff efficiency, and a solution that had reliable support staff behind the product."

The Results: Two decades of continuous results

PDT began their search, comparing managed care products and ultimately deciding to stay with MedMC and make the full implementation. For PDT, MedMC helped the company keep up with claims processing best practices and other major changes in the industry from year to year. "From a data entry perspective, MedMC was very easy to use. Our staff was processing a lot of claims in a short amount of time," said Massey. "So much has changed since then. MedMC has really helped us keep up with industry changes. Now, all of our referrals come in electronically. We don’t have nearly as many data entry staff compared to where we were in 2001 because so much of the process is automated. Our auto-adjudication rate has really improved. We save a lot of time getting payments out to providers and they’re much more accurate. That’s the most important thing for us."

The most significant reason that PDT has continued to use MedMC as their managed care software solution for almost twenty years is solution support. "The number one reason we utilize MedMC instead of another product is because we’re not treated like just another support ticket," said Massey.
